प्रसंग:

• अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रमिक दिवस, जिसे कुछ देशों में श्रमिक दिवस या श्रमिक दिवस के रूप में भी जाना जाता है और जिसे अक्सर मई दिवस के रूप में जाना जाता है, मजदूरों का उत्सव है और जो श्रमिक वर्ग अंतर्राष्ट्रीय श्रमिक आंदोलन द्वारा प्रचारित किया जाता है जो हर साल मई दिवस पर होता है (1 मई), एक प्राचीन यूरोपीय वसंत उत्सव।

• यह भारत के कार्यबल के सम्मान के रूप में पूरे भारत में छुट्टी के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
• महाराष्ट्र और गुजरात में, इसे आधिकारिक रूप से क्रमशः महाराष्ट्र दिवस और गुजरात दिवस कहा जाता है, क्योंकि यह इस दिन 1960 में था कि उन्होंने तत्कालीन-बॉम्बे राज्य के द्विभाजन के माध्यम से भाषाई-लाइनों पर राज्य का दर्जा प्राप्त किया था।

World Press Freedom Day – May 3

Context:

  • World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO’s General Conference.
  • Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of the Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.
  • May 3 acts as a reminder to governments of the need to respect their commitment to press freedom. It is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics.

 It is an opportunity to:

  • Celebrate the fundamental principles of press freedom;
  • Assess the state of press freedom throughout the world;
  • Defend the media from attacks on their independence;
  • And pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (IMD) ने हिंद महासागर क्षेत्र में उष्णकटिबंधीय चक्रवातों के लिए 169 नए नाम जारी किए हैं।
• नामों में 13 देशों भारत, श्रीलंका, मालदीव, म्यांमार, ओमान, थाईलैंड, कतर, यूएई, सऊदी अरब, यमन, पाकिस्तान, बांग्लादेश और ईरान का योगदान था। विश्व मौसम विज्ञान संगठन द्वारा आयोजित ट्रॉपिकल साइक्लोन (PTC) पर पैनल के 45 वें सत्र के दौरान चक्रवातों की नई सूची बनाने का निर्णय लिया गया।
• नामों में निम्नलिखित नियम होने चाहिए ।
• प्रस्तावित नाम संस्कृतियों, राजनीति, लिंग और धार्मिक मान्यताओं के लिए तटस्थ होना चाहिए।
• नाम प्रकृति में अशिष्ट या क्रूर नहीं होना चाहिए ।
• PTC को देशों द्वारा सुझाए गए नामों को अस्वीकार करने का अधिकार है ।
• नाम 8 अक्षरों से कम और उच्चारण में आसान होना चाहिए।

ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में ई-कॉमर्स संभालने के लिए भारत सरकार:
• भारत सरकार ने घोषणा की कि कॉमन सर्विस सेंटर अब ग्रामीण स्तर पर ऑनलाइन रिटेल चेन का काम संभालेंगे। इस कदम से ग्रामीण क्षेत्र में 60 करोड़ से अधिक लोगों तक पहुंचने की उम्मीद है।
• आम सेवा केंद्र को ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में ई-कॉमर्स दिग्गज फ्लिपकार्ट और अमेज़ॅन की नौकरियां लेनी हैं।
इस पहल का प्रचार भारत सरकार द्वारा किया जाता है।
• गतिशीलता पर लगाए गए प्रतिबंधों द्वारा उत्पन्न कठिनाइयों को दूर करने के लिए गाँव-स्तर की ऑनलाइन खुदरा श्रृंखलाएँ बनाई जा रही हैं। भारत सरकार ने इस पहल के माध्यम से बड़े पैमाने पर आवश्यक आपूर्ति प्रदान करने की योजना बनाई है।
• दुकानों को निजी व्यक्तियों द्वारा स्थापित और चलाया जाना है। हालांकि, उन्हें सीधे इलेक्ट्रॉनिक्स और आईटी मंत्रालय द्वारा मॉनिटर किया जाना है।

• सामान्य सेवा केंद्र की स्थापना 2006 में राष्ट्रीय ई-शासन योजना के तहत की गई थी। उन्हें शिक्षा, टेलीमेडिसिन, ई-गवर्नेंस और मनोरंजन के क्षेत्रों में लागत प्रभावी, उच्च गुणवत्ता वाली आवाज और डेटा सेवाएं प्रदान करना था।
सरकार की नीतियां और हस्तक्षेप
जल शक्ति अभियान:
• जल शक्ति अभियान ने ग्रामीण अर्थव्यवस्था को बढ़ावा देने और COVID-19 द्वारा बनाए गए वर्तमान स्वास्थ्य संकट से निपटने के लिए सभी उपाय किए हैं। इसके अलावा, योजना ग्रामीण श्रम बलों की बड़ी उपलब्धता (लॉक डाउन के कारण) का उपयोग करने के लिए है।
• भारतीय मौसम विभाग (IMD) ने हाल ही में घोषणा की थी कि देश में मानसून की बारिश सामान्य होनी है।
• जल शक्ति अभियान ने जल संरक्षण और पुनर्भरण और जल स्रोतों को फिर से भरने की तैयारी की थी।

• इस योजना को आयुष्मान भारत योजना कहा जाता है और इसे प्रधानमंत्री जन आरोग्य योजना (PMJAY) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।

योजना के बारे में:
• इसका उद्देश्य सामाजिक-आर्थिक जाति जनगणना डेटाबेस के आधार पर गरीब और जरूरतमंद परिवारों को सहायता प्रदान करना है। योजना के माध्यम से, वे आगे देश भर के सार्वजनिक और निजी अस्पतालों से कैशलेस लाभ ले सकेंगे।
• आयुष्मान भारत दिवस में जुड़वां मिशन हैं। दिन का उद्देश्य स्वास्थ्य और कल्याण को बढ़ावा देना और गरीबों को बीमा लाभ प्रदान करना है।
• इस योजना को राष्ट्रीय स्वास्थ्य सुरक्षा योजना और मोदीकेयर भी कहा जाता है। इस योजना में शामिल कुछ बीमारियों में बाल चिकित्सा कैंसर और कई अन्य शामिल हैं।
• यह दिन भारत में 50 करोड़ लाभार्थियों को लाभान्वित करने का लक्ष्य रखता है और इसमें माध्यमिक और तृतीयक स्वास्थ्य सेवा शामिल है।
• इस योजना का उद्देश्य भारत में 10 करोड़ से अधिक परिवारों को स्वास्थ्य सेवा प्रदान करना है। 10 करोड़ परिवारों में ग्रामीण क्षेत्रों में 8 करोड़ परिवार और शहरी क्षेत्रों के 2.33 करोड़ परिवार शामिल हैं।

This day in India:

  • In India, the first formal celebration of Labour Day was initiated by the ‘Labour Kisan Party of Hindustan’ in Chennai (then known as Madras) on 1 May 1923.
  • It is observed as a holiday all over India as a mark of respect to India’s workforce.
  • In Maharashtra and Gujarat, it is officially called Maharashtra Day and Gujarat Day respectively, since it was on this day in 1960 that they attained statehood on linguistic-lines through the bifurcation of the then-Bombay state.
  • At diverse corners of the country, the holiday is also celebrated as ‘Antarrashtriya Shramik Diwas’, ‘Uzhaipalar Dinam’ (Tamil) or ‘Kamgar Din’.

169 new names of Tropical Cyclones:

  • The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has released 169 new names for the tropical cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • The names were contributed by 13 countries namely India, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Thailand, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Iran. The decision to create new list of cyclones was taken during the 45th session of Panel on Tropical Cyclones (PTC) held by World Meteorological Organization.
  • The names should have the following rules
  • The proposed names should be neutral to cultures, politics, gender and religious beliefs
  • The name should not be rude or cruel in nature
  • The PTC has rights to reject the names suggested by the countries
  • The name should be short with less than 8 characters and easy to pronounce.

GoI to take over E-Commerce in rural areas:

  • The Government of India announced that the Common Service Centres will now take over village level online retail chain. The step is expected to reach more than 60 crores of people in rural region.
  • The Common Service Centre’s are to take over the jobs of E-commerce Giants Flipkart and Amazon in the rural regions.
  • The initiative is promoted by Government of India.
  • The village-level online retail chains are being created to address the difficulties created by the restrictions imposed on mobility. GoI has plans t o provide massive essential supplies through this initiative.
  • The outlets are to be set up and run by private individuals. However, they are to be monitored directly by the Ministry of electronics and IT.
  • The Common Service Centre’s are to supply essential commodities like milk, vegetables, fruits, pulses, etc. The consumers shall place their orders at these centres through special applications.
  • The Common Service Centre’s were established in 2006 under National E-Governance Plan. They were to provide cost-effective, high quality voice and data services in the areas of education, telemedicine, e-governance and entertainment.

Government policies and Interventions

Jal Shakti Abhiyan:

  • The Jal Shakti Abhiyan has taken all measures to boost the rural economy and combat present health crisis created by COVID-19. Also, the scheme is to use large availability of rural labour forces (due to lock down).
  • The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) had recently announced that the monsoon rains in the country are to be normal.
  • The Jal Shakti Abhiyan had made preparations to conserve water and recharge and replenish water sources.
  • About the scheme: The Jal Shakti Abhiyan was launched in 2019. So far, the scheme has covered over 256 water stressed districts in the country. It is the largest mass movement in India that brings all stakeholders under one ambit. This is because more than 6 and half crore people are part of it. This includes central government, state governments, Panchayati raj institutions, and more.
